White Paper Abstract
Limiting the Impact of Leather Goods Production
The global leather goods industry is well-established and well-developed, but it continues to experience considerable additional growth due to market demands. This growth is problematic due to increasing concerns related to the environmental impact of traditional leather production techniques.
Our white paper addresses specifically the use of hazardous chemical crosslinking agents in the finishing process.
Despite their effectiveness, crosslinking agents have inherent limitations and drawbacks: they can affect color quality, generate unwanted waste, and, most importantly, pose health and environment risks.
We focus on the journey that brought Lamberti from analyzing these problems to developing a solution that limits the impact of leather goods production on the workers and on the environment. We developed a new leather finishing technology (Lamberti 1K™) that eliminates the need for chemical crosslinkers whilst maintaining high-quality leather production, ensuring physical-chemical resistance, and preserving the tactile and sensory qualities of leather goods.
By removing crosslinkers, we can minimize workers’ exposure to hazardous substances and reduce unnecessary waste, all whilst integrating into existing production processes.
