Engineers for Safety: A Learning Day at Lamberti
Insubria's University students visited our Albizzate plant
Reading time: 3 min

On May 26, 2025, the Lamberti Albizzate plant opened its doors to a group of ten students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering for Work and Environmental Safety at the University of Insubria. Accompanied by Professor Cristiana Morosini and representatives from the Provincia di Varese, the students spent a day immersed in real-world practices of industrial safety and sustainability.
Despite outdated stereotypes, chemical manufacturing sites today are pioneers in workplace safety and environmental protection. At Lamberti, we believe in sharing this knowledge and fostering a culture of responsibility through direct experience.
About Environmental Remediation

The day began with a lectio magistralis on industrial site remediation, presented by Sara Ceccon and Giorgio Carabelli of Ramboll Italy.
The session provided students with valuable insights into the technical and regulatory challenges of managing and restoring contaminated industrial areas through a case study.
Details on the projet steps, equipments and measuring tools were provided.
💧 Wastewater Treatment Plant

In the afternoon, Davide Sacchi and Dario Pagani of CIEM introduced the engineering behind our recently upgraded Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
Originally installed in the 1990s, the Albizzate WWTP underwent a major revamp to align with new and future production needs while enhancing efficiency.

This ingent project, completed in July 2024, introduced several key innovations:
- Renovation of purification tanks without halting production
- Automation of operational processes
- Advanced effluent selection systems
- Enhancement of the biological oxidation stages Vs. chemical treatment, with a drastic reduction of the chemicals used and the consequent reduction in the production of sludge
- the addition of a photovoltaic system to reduce the impact of non-renewable energy consumption
The key operations involved the integration of CIEM's patented EOX technology, including an external oxidation unit and a membrane bioreactor (MBR) system.
Thanks to this project our WWTP not only meets stringent environmental standards but also highlights how innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
🎓 A Learning Opportunity for Future Safety Engineers

The visit provided a hands-on learning opportunity for future engineers to understand how theoretical knowledge translates into impactful safety and environmental practices.
By involving the next generation of professionals, Lamberti reaffirms its commitment to fostering a safer, cleaner, and more sustainable industrial future.
